Porn Comics

Porn Comics are comic books with explicit sexual content that is considered inappropriate for children or those easily offended. Such material includes violent scenes or actions. Published by publishers who cater to specific audiences – for instance erotica or horror comics – these comics typically contain explicit sexuality as well as violent elements. Some titles have even been created by artists with a reputation for producing such work, like Kabier who has produced several such titles.

Although American comics dealing with sexuality have existed since the start of the 20th century, most were simply Tijuana bibles – childish attempts at drawing famous celebrities or characters from popular movies or comics in sexual scenarios which appeal to the lowest common denominator. Playboy magazine began publishing Little Annie Fanny strips by Harvey Kurtzman and Will Elder of EC alumni fame during the 1960s; later followed by other erotic strips such as Penthouse Men’s Adventure series strips as well as Fredric Mullally and Wallace Wood’s Oh Wicked Wanda strip.

Fantagraphics Books debuted Eros Comix comics in the 1980s, with Gilbert Hernandez of Love and Rockets serving as one of its primary creators and quickly making it popular through Birdland, an erotic strip that depicts a lawyer having affairs with two strippers. Due to this success, Hernandez went on to develop other such comics for Fantagraphics Books.

Success of sex and adult comics played an instrumental part in changing people’s perception of comics as solely being meant for children. Publishers saw an untapped market for this kind of material and started publishing more comics targeted toward adults such as Creepy & Eerie horror magazines and Vampirella science fiction title; also, heavy Metal anthology featured many authors who would become influential later, like Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons who went on to create Watchmen, while Neil Gaiman would later pen Sandman!

The market for Violent Porn Comics continued to expand throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and many major comics companies began publishing these types of titles. Marvel produced several glossy color titles like Savage Tales and Tomb of Dracula while DC published adult titles such as Warlock with Peter Milligan and Leandro Fernandez as co-writers before eventually expanding its list with Vertigo imprint titles.
